Unlike its predecessors, this robot is fully electric and boasts improved functionality.
Unitree Robotics, a company known for its quadruped robots, is now entering the market for general-purpose humanoid robots. Its latest humanoid model, the G1, is priced at $16,000 and has already demonstrated impressive performance.
According to New Atlas, Unitree was focused on producing quadruped robots like the Go2 and B2 until December of last year. However, with the debut of their first bipedal humanoid, the company now faces competition from the likes of Tesla, Figure, Boston Dynamics, and Sanctuary AI.
The new G1 model stands out not only in terms of price but also in its upgraded capabilities and design. The robot has demonstrated remarkable agility: jumping, turning, dancing, climbing stairs, navigating obstacles of various heights, and adjusting its movement in real time.
The G1 is equipped with a 3D LiDAR sensor, RealSense depth camera, and an array of microphones for voice commands, alongside a 5W stereo speaker. Its 9,000mAh battery provides approximately two hours of operation on a single charge. The robot can walk at speeds of up to 2 metres per second.
Although Unitree describes the G1 as ready for mass production, it’s not yet confirmed whether production has officially begun.
Meanwhile, Boston Dynamics recently unveiled its new humanoid robot, Atlas, which is designed to replace humans in factories. The fully electric robot is powered by artificial intelligence, allowing it to adapt and learn. Atlas will be able to perform a variety of tasks, including lifting heavy objects and performing complex manipulations. Testing is set to begin in Hyundai factories before a wider production rollout.
