ORBEX, Scotland-based orbital launch services company, is launching its annual internship programme, recruiting for five individuals to support the start-up’s team of experts working towards launch.

The programme offers a “once in a lifetime opportunity” for STEM students to secure hands-on experience in Scotland’s space sector as the company develops its Prime rocket and Sutherland Spaceport. The roles span multiple areas of the business, offering interns the chance to support with the design of the rocket, its data and software, electronics and testing.

Ruairidh Green, from Elgin, joined Orbex’s 2023/24 internship programme as an AIT Intern and shares his experience: “While studying Physics at the University of Glasgow I was looking to get my teeth into professional work. When I saw the announcement of Orbex’s internship programme last year, I didn’t hesitate to apply for a once in a lifetime opportunity to work in the space industry. Everything I have learned from the team at Orbex has been invaluable. I’d really encourage those looking to learn new skills and the process behind developing a space company to apply!”

Phillip Chambers, CEO of Orbex, commented: “This is a brilliant opportunity for young people to learn from our team of experts and gain experience of working of different aspects of the rocket. As we progress towards the completion of Sutherland Spaceport and Orbex Prime, heralding our first launch, we are entering our next phase of growth. It is a hugely exciting time to be joining Orbex and we are looking for some of Scotland’s home-grown STEM talent to be part of our journey to launch into orbit.”
