SCOTTISH start-up Recast has been awarded the top spot at this year’s Northern Tech Awards, taking home the Northern Star Overall Judges Award.

Since 2014, the annual Northern Tech Awards shine a light upon the leading technology businesses headquartered in the North of England and Scotland. The year, the event took place at Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms in George Street, and was attended by CEOs, entrepreneurs and business leaders in the Digital Economy.

Based in Edinburgh, Recast is a globally available streaming platform that allows top organisations such as Manchester City FC to monetise live and on-demand content through microtransactions. The platform allows audiences to pay creators per view, rather than paying a platform subscription, with up to 85% of income going directly to publishers.

Commenting on the news Recast’s CEO and Founder, Andy Meikle, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the top accolade at the Northern Tech Awards ceremony. The award celebrates the leading technology businesses headquartered in the North of England and Scotland – and we were up against top competition. This recognition from the judges highlights the unique power of Recast’s technology and innovation.

“Throughout the last 12 months, we have experienced remarkable growth and traction, working with forward-thinking partners and industry figures alike. Winning an award like this is a testament to the efforts of everyone involved with Recast and I’m delighted I get to dedicate this award to everyone in the team.”
