AI scaleups have until 9am on Monday 20 July 2026 to apply for the latest cohort of the University of Edinburgh’s AI Accelerator, the Bayes Centre‑led programme designed to help ambitious companies refine strategy, secure investment and access world‑class AI expertise.
The AI Accelerator is a scale‑up programme for existing businesses that use artificial intelligence to solve global challenges, with a focus on sharpening business models, building investor confidence and connecting founders to Edinburgh’s data and AI ecosystem. Since its launch in 2019, more than 100 companies have been supported through the wider AI entrepreneurial programmes, collectively raising in excess of £130 million in funding.
Applications for the current intake are open until 20 July 2026 at 9am GMT. Eligible companies are expected to be incorporated scaleups, ideally post‑revenue, with products close to market fit, revenues of at least £50,000 or funding of £250,000 in the past two years, and the potential to reach £1 million in annual revenue within three years.
International applicants are welcome and do not need an existing relationship with the University of Edinburgh, although the programme is designed to deepen links with Scotland’s AI and data science community.
The Accelerator is delivered by the Bayes Centre, the University’s innovation hub for data science and artificial intelligence, working alongside Edinburgh Innovations and the broader Data‑Driven Innovation initiative. Participating founders gain access to the Bayes Centre’s community and facilities, as well as high‑performance computing and supercomputing resources through EPCC.
Previous cohorts have focused heavily on “AI for good” themes such as health, climate and social impact, with companies ranging from wearable tech tackling drug overdose risk to AI‑enabled financial guidance and tools for evaluating natural capital. Alumni have gone on to secure investment, scale internationally and build partnerships across sectors including life sciences, robotics, climate tech and creative industries.
Silicon Scotland has followed the programme’s evolution since its early years, including the 2021 intake themed around “AI for transformational change”, when the Accelerator invited its next cohort of companies to address post‑Covid health and climate challenges.
