Samsung Electronics has announced a partnership with Mistral AI to develop AI systems for its semiconductor operations. The company also says it has led Mistral’s Series D funding round, securing an equity stake to support their long-term technology collaboration.

Announced on 9 September during a South Korea–France state summit in Paris, the agreement includes integrating Mistral’s services and its Mistral Large language model into Samsung’s chip operations. The companies plan to develop customised AI models running within Samsung’s own infrastructure.

Samsung says this approach will allow sensitive technology and operational data to be processed internally. Planned applications include detecting manufacturing defects and optimising equipment, with the aim of shortening development cycles and improving manufacturing precision and production yields.

Arthur Mensch, Mistral’s co-founder and chief executive, said in Samsung’s announcement: “AI is reshaping how we build complex technologies, from silicon to software.”

The partnership covers Samsung’s semiconductor engineering and manufacturing capabilities, including advanced memory and logic chips. Samsung has not disclosed the size of its investment or a deployment timetable in the announcement, and the anticipated manufacturing benefits remain objectives rather than reported results.
