Scotland is home to more than 200 cybersecurity companies, one of Europe’s most active cyber clusters — and as AI-driven threats compress the time between vulnerability and exploit to under ten hours, those firms now have another option available to assist their defence efforts.

Sysdig this week announced headless cloud security, the first cyberdefence platform built for the agentic AI era. For Scottish security teams operating across financial services, energy, and the country’s fast-growing AI sector, the timing is significant. The Scottish Government’s AI Strategy 2026–2031 projects AI could add £23 billion annually to the Scottish economy by 2035 — but that scale of digital growth also means an expanded attack surface that traditional security dashboards simply cannot defend at machine speed.

Sysdig’s headless model is designed to address that gap. It strips out the conventional user interface entirely, delivering full cloud-native application protection (CNAPP) capabilities directly into AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. Rather than security professionals logging into a vendor dashboard to chase alerts, AI agents become the primary operators — pulling real-time security data automatically into the workflows where developers already work.

“Security teams don’t need more dashboards, they need better outcomes. With headless cloud security, we’re rewriting security without the UI,” said Loris Degioanni, Sysdig Founder and CTO. “Sysdig is enabling AI agents to understand your environment, personalise what matters most to you through constant iteration, and take action that immediately reduces risk.”

The Shrinking Window

The urgency behind the launch is stark. Where attacks once unfolded over days or weeks, AI has collapsed that timeline dramatically. Sysdig reports attacks are now executing in under eight minutes, with vulnerabilities weaponised within ten hours of disclosure. Sysdig CISO Sergej Epp launched the Zero Day Clock at zerodayclock.com to track that window publicly — and headless security is the company’s direct operational response to it.

The emergence of tools like Mythos and ChatGPT 5.5 — both of which have completed the AI Security Institute’s Lost Ones test — means automated vulnerability discovery and exploit development are increasingly accessible to bad actors. For Scottish firms in high-value sectors like oil and gas, renewables, and life sciences, that is a threat worth taking seriously.

IDC Group Vice President Frank Dickson was direct: “Cybersecurity is at an inflection point; entire attacks now unfold faster than we can manually investigate alerts. Traditional cybersecurity models weren’t designed for this pace.”

How It Works

The platform operates on three principles: hyper-personalisation, continuous integration across tools, and machine learning that compounds over time. Teams define security operations through their own AI agents, with automatic correlation across datasets and every action remaining fully auditable. Initial capabilities include automated vulnerability management and fix generation, real-time posture management, runtime threat investigation, and guided onboarding across cloud and Kubernetes environments.

Melinda Marks, Practice Director for Cybersecurity at Omdia, said: “Sysdig’s headless cloud security represents a shift from human-centric workflows to machine-native operations to optimise speed and efficiency, which is essential for scaling security to meet today’s demands.”

Sysdig is trusted by more than 60% of the Fortune 500. More information is available at sysdig.com/headlesscloudsecurity.
