JET Connectivity secures £1.2 million to scale its sovereign 5G platforms for remote and offshore operations across Scotland and beyond.

Scottish investment syndicate TRICAPITAL Angels has led a £1.2 million round into JET Connectivity, a UK firm developing sovereign 5G networks designed to operate where traditional infrastructure – and even satellites – fall short. The Pre-Series A funding, which also includes The FSE Group and private investors, comes as demand accelerates for secure, rapidly deployable communications across defence, energy and critical infrastructure.

For operators in remote and hostile environments, dependable, high-bandwidth connectivity is increasingly seen as a strategic asset rather than a “nice to have”. JET Connectivity, founded in 2020, has built its own integrated hardware and software stack to deliver high-bandwidth 5G via portable mesh networks.

JET’s land and sea-based systems can be deployed across offshore, coastal and remote environments, operating independently of fibre and in conditions where GPS and conventional connectivity are unreliable. That puts the company in an increasingly relevant position alongside satellite services such as Starlink.

While low Earth orbit satellite networks have transformed access in rural and maritime regions, they do not always meet requirements around strict data sovereignty, ultra-low latency or full infrastructure control. JET’s sovereign, private 5G networks give customers the option to keep data on their own infrastructure, tune performance for mission-critical applications and reduce exposure to congestion or third-party outages.

Scottish use cases and deployment plans

For Scotland, the use cases are immediate. Offshore wind farms in the North Sea, aquaculture operators along the west coast, and remote Highland and island communities all face persistent connectivity challenges. In these environments, JET’s floating 5G platforms and pop-up base stations could sit alongside or in place of Starlink and other satellite services, providing resilient, high-performance coverage where existing options are limited or inconsistent.

The company has already secured contracts with public sector and nationally significant organisations, reflecting growing interest in deployable communications systems that can support real-time operations in complex environments. The new funding will support commercial rollout, including deployments from the Scottish Highlands to the North Sea, and the company is exploring plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Scotland within the next 12 months.

Investor perspective

Moray Martin, CEO of TRICAPITAL Angels, said: “JET Connectivity exemplifies the kind of ambitious, technically brilliant company that this country excels at producing.

“They combine deep technical expertise with a strong commercial focus, creating solutions that extend 5G access to areas where conventional networks cannot reach. This fast-moving, innovative, and rapidly scaling company is an excellent fit for the TRICAPITAL Angels portfolio. Equally, the expertise we bring to support their ambitions highlights the strength, value and partnership ethos we bring to our portfolio companies.”

Technology and next steps for JET Connectivity

JET’s product range spans compact 5G-connected buoys for rivers and coastal zones, larger offshore platforms capable of year-round deployment, and land-based systems for ports, airfields, manufacturing sites and emergency response.

James Thomas, CEO of JET Connectivity, said: “This investment marks a pivotal moment in our journey. With the support of TRICAPITAL Angels and FSE, we are now positioned to meet the rapidly evolving requirements of organisations operating in complex and infrastructure-constrained environments.

“Our sovereign 5G networks are designed to provide the ultimate in secure, high-speed connectivity for those operating in the most challenging environments. This funding allows us to scale at the pace required to support critical national security initiatives.”

With demand rising across offshore energy, maritime operations, environmental monitoring and emergency response, JET Connectivity is now expanding its team across engineering, sales and operations as it scales in the UK and internationally.
