Sky has begun consulting on plans to reduce around 600 roles across the UK as it reshapes its technology organisation following a burst of product launches. About 900 employees are in scope of the consultation, with roughly two-thirds expected to be made redundant. Staff at Livingston, Leeds and London’s Osterley campus are affected; Sky’s Livingston hub houses key tech, product and data teams alongside its Watermark and Kirkton Campus operations.
The Comcast-owned broadcaster said the restructure follows heavy investment in platforms such as Sky Glass, Sky Stream and full-fibre broadband. With those services now established, the company plans to focus on “digital-first service, unbeatable content, and better performance from our products,” adding that the moves are about refocusing rather than cost-cutting. The cuts are not performance-based and Sky said redeployment opportunities will be available.
Since early 2023, Sky has trimmed about 3,000 roles, including dish-installation engineers and staff at three closed call centres, while also funding the removal of Huawei kit from its mobile network to meet UK security rules.
