Telefónica has joined FinTech Scotland as a strategic partner through its Telefónica Tech UK&I business, taking the organisation’s partner network to 37.
The technology provider has offices in Glasgow and Aberdeenshire and offers services including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and cloud technology.
The partnership coincides with the Financial Regulation Innovation Lab’s Responsible AI challenge, which brings together 15 financial and professional services organisations, 14 fintechs and the Financial Conduct Authority to explore the adoption and responsible use of AI in financial services.
FinTech Scotland said Telefónica Tech UK&I would follow the initiative with interest.
The company will also be headline sponsor of DIGIT’s Financial Technology Summit on 7 October, part of the FinTech Scotland Festival 2026.
Aleks Tomczyk, chief executive of FinTech Scotland, said: “Welcoming Telefónica, through Telefónica Tech UK&I, to our Strategic Partner group is timely. They bring international scale, a dedication to collaboration, deep technical expertise and a genuine commitment to building tech that is not only powerful but responsible.”
Stephen O’Keane, advisory director at Telefónica Tech UK&I, said: “Scotland’s fintech cluster has built a community where collaboration, growth and responsible innovation go hand in hand. We’re pleased to be joining as a Strategic Partner, and to see the important work being done on responsible AI.”
FinTech Scotland’s strategic partners include financial and professional services businesses, technology providers, academia and public-sector organisations.
The organisation says Scotland’s fintech cluster is now home to more than 266 fintechs and has more than doubled in five years.
