A Glasgow veterinary practice has become the first in Scotland to offer patients access to a revolutionary new digital 3D imaging system that speeds up image acquisition, improves diagnosis and reduces stress for sick pets and their owners.

Ardmory Veterinary Clinic in Glasgow installed the Adaptix VetSA3D digital X-ray system in June, which is now in regular use for dental, orthopaedic and exotics imaging at the Toryglen-based practice.

Michael Orsi BVMS MRCVS of Ardmory Veterinary Clinic, said: “We have used the Adaptix VetSA3D unit for a range of dental, orthopaedic and exotic cases so far and have found it very straightforward to use.”

“The 3D image detail allows us to identify pathologies and isolate anatomical features more clearly than would be possible with 2D radiography. For example, we can now see the whole arcade of teeth in one view, rather than relying on several partial views from traditional 2D X-rays, reducing the time needed to obtain images and limiting stress for animals and their owners alike.”

“The new technology allows us to obtain excellent views of variety of anatomical structures, making diagnosis quicker and more accurate, while its precise measurement capabilities can also be used to improve selection and placement of orthopaedic implants, improving care for our much-loved companions.”

Mark Thomas, senior product manager at Adaptix, said: “We’re delighted that Ardmory Veterinary Clinic is bringing the benefits of digital 3D X-ray to its patients through the Adaptix VetSA3D system.

“At Adaptix, our goal is to transform radiology for patients and clinicians alike, improving diagnostics by bringing low-dose, high-quality 3D imaging to the point of care, and transforming the economics of veterinary practice.”

Michael Orsi continued: “The Adaptix VetSA3D has already proved to be a great addition to our clinic and we are looking forward to using it more and more over the coming months to improve diagnosis, treatment planning and all round care for our customers.”

The Adaptix VetSA3D offers a smaller, portable, lower-cost alternative to CT imaging. It is especially beneficial for the accurate diagnosis of orthopaedic and dental problems in companion animals, such as elbow fractures in dogs and monitoring long-term ‘life-cycle’ conditions such as arthritis. Weighing just 23kg and measuring 47x44x73cm (wdh), the System can be used in almost any clinical setting, with images taking as little as 30 seconds to acquire and almost instantaneous reconstruction.
