Aberdeen-headquartered AquaTerra Group is approaching a significant milestone in the rollout of its AquaShim stabilisation system, with close to 80 installations now completed across offshore assets worldwide.

The engineering specialist says the figure reflects growing industry appetite for technologies that can extend asset life, reduce maintenance requirements, and improve operational efficiency in demanding offshore environments.

AquaShim was originally developed to tackle persistent splash zone stabilisation challenges. Since its first offshore installation in 2019 — following initial development in 2017 — the system has matured into a field-proven solution, designed to accommodate structural movement and distribute load more effectively than conventional rigid shimming approaches. The technology targets wear between conductors and guides, one of the primary drivers of ongoing maintenance and intervention costs offshore.

Kevin Nelson, Technical Manager at AquaTerra, speaking to Silicon Scotland said that the milestone represents a meaningful validation of the technology: “Reaching close to 80 installations is a significant milestone for AquaShim and reflects the confidence operators have in the solution. What’s particularly important is that this isn’t just about deployment numbers — it’s about the consistent results we’re seeing in the field.”

The system has been deployed across a range of offshore platforms, including Piper Bravo and Claymore, where traditional centralisation systems had previously failed. In both cases, AquaShim delivered long-term stabilisation without the need for continued maintenance intervention.

With the energy sector increasingly focused on maximising the lifespan of existing infrastructure rather than investing in new-build assets, AquaTerra says proven, scalable solutions like AquaShim are well-positioned for continued demand. The company adds that further deployments will continue to generate operational data to inform future development of the technology.

AquaTerra Group, founded in 2004, provides construction, maintenance, and inspection services to the energy sector, alongside a portfolio of specialist products including AquaShim, AquaCLAM, QuikDeck, CureShield, and MGP-i.
