Edinburgh-headquartered Commsworld, one of the UK’s largest independent network providers, is targeting a second five-year doubling of turnover as it builds out a UK-wide growth roadmap under its first Chief Revenue Officer, on the back of a year in which recurring revenue and cash generation strengthened but pre-tax profits slipped.
The company reported turnover of £36.9 million for 2025, in line with the previous year, with higher-value recurring revenues rising. Pre-tax profits fell to £3.6 million from £4.7 million, and EBITDA came in at £6.2 million against £7 million, in line with board expectations. Commsworld said it continued to generate operational cashflow closely aligned with EBITDA and remained focused on winning and delivering large-scale connectivity projects across the public and private sectors.
Contract wins during the year included the upgrade of Wigan Council’s local and wide area networks, the transition of Glasgow City Council’s connectivity services onto the Commsworld network, and a 15-year agreement with West Lothian Council to modernise, manage and support its Wide Area Network across public sector sites.
Chief Executive Steve Langmead said: “Commsworld Ltd’s results show that the company remains in very good health, with growth in recurring revenue and robust cash generation only strengthening the foundations from which we will grow.”
He added: “There are challenges in the sector for example guiding customers through the Public Switched Telephone Network shutdown, and global business uncertainty resulting in a slowing down of customer decision making, but our primary aim as a company is to continue to grow and evolve by delivering excellence to our customers.”
The growth push is being led by Melony Buchanan, appointed earlier this year to the newly created role of Chief Revenue Officer. Buchanan, who previously oversaw the Scottish Wide Area Network (SWAN) as Managing Director and led Capita’s public sector portfolio as Client Partner for Local and Regional Partnerships, is responsible for geographical, proposition and partnership expansion under a UK-wide growth roadmap.
Langmead said of her appointment: “We have achieved so much over the last few years, especially in terms of long-term public sector contracts, doubling our turnover in five years from £20m to £40m. I now want Commsworld to more than double that again over the next five years.”
Buchanan said: “I am proud to be joining Commsworld at a pivotal time in the company’s evolution. I have been impressed in recent years by the way in which Commsworld has secured major contracts and delivered exceptional value for customers. I believe that Commsworld is uniquely positioned to support the public and private sector in tackling some of the biggest UK challenges.”
