YouTube has unveiled a range of AI-assisted tools for creators and viewers at its annual Made on YouTube event.

For creators, a new conversational editing tool across Shorts and the YouTube Create app guides users through each edit. They can start from suggested prompts or their own to produce a first draft, then keep chatting to trim pauses or reorder footage for better pacing, with manual editing still available.

YouTube Studio is being expanded to give personalised guidance on early drafts, generate thumbnails that match a channel’s style, and A/B test up to three different cuts of a video.

Likeness detection, which helps creators protect their face and voice, is coming to mobile, and YouTube will begin combining speaking voice detection with facial detection to improve match accuracy.

Viewers will soon be able to design their own homepage feeds using conversational prompts, and Ask YouTube is being expanded to offer product recommendations. Shorts can now be organised into seasons and episodes.

Live streaming updates include Live showdowns, where creators merge streams for head-to-head competitions, and real-time auto dubbing.

YouTube is also expanding its Shopping affiliate programme to 35 countries by the end of the year, including support for Amazon in international regions.

The company said more than 20 million videos are uploaded to the platform every day.
