Microsoft has introduced a new version of its Copilot app with three capabilities: Home, Code and Autopilot.

Home is a new starting point that brings together Chat, for quick questions and drafts, and Cowork, for tasks that are delegated and run end to end. It also includes Office in Copilot, which builds Word, Excel and PowerPoint into the experience, so Copilot can create or update editable documents, workbooks and presentations.

Code lets users describe an app, tracker, dashboard or workflow in natural language and have Copilot build it. It is powered by the same underlying technology as GitHub Copilot and runs in a sandboxed environment.

Autopilot, previously called Scout, is described as a persistent, proactive and personal agent. Users give it a name, a role and a goal, and it continues working in the cloud without waiting for a prompt.

Jared Spataro, Microsoft’s chief marketing officer for AI at Work, wrote: “With the new Copilot, you now have one place to ask, delegate, build, automate and more.”

Home and Code will roll out through Microsoft’s Frontier programme, while Autopilot is expanding to private preview at the end of the month. Microsoft also announced FinOps for AI capabilities to help organisations manage spending on Copilot and agents.
