Edinburgh‑based environmental intelligence scaleup Earth Blox has raised £6 million in new investment to grow its satellite‑data platform, which helps banks and corporates understand how climate hazards and nature loss affect their assets and portfolios. The round was led by PXN Ventures, with participation from Scottish Enterprise, follow‑on investment from Archangels and funding support from the European Space Agency, underlining strong institutional confidence in Scotland’s downstream space and climate‑tech sector.

Earth Blox’s cloud platform combines satellite imagery with advanced analytics to map and quantify nature‑related and climate risks across millions of hectares, giving users visibility over deforestation, land‑use change, biodiversity impacts and exposure to extreme weather across supply chains and financed assets. Customers can run repeatable analyses at portfolio scale to support reporting under frameworks such as CSRD, TNFD and TCFD, turning complex environmental data into actionable risk metrics and investment signals.

The company, a spin‑out from the University of Edinburgh, already works with organisations including global banks and impact‑focused investors to assess how nature loss could affect long‑term performance and resilience. A recent project with Lloyds Banking Group used Earth Blox’s technology to analyse large, complex portfolios and identify where resilience investments would have the greatest effect, illustrating how satellite‑driven insight can feed directly into mainstream financial decision‑making.

Funding will be used to expand the Earth Blox team, accelerate product development and deepen the platform’s capabilities, including integrating additional environmental and financial data sources. The company plans to scale delivery so customers can analyse risk faster and in greater detail, at a time when banks and businesses face growing pressure from regulators, investors and disclosure regimes to understand nature‑related risks, with trillions of dollars in revenues exposed globally.

For Scotland’s tech and business ecosystem, this deal reinforces Edinburgh’s position as a hub for climate‑tech, space‑data and responsible finance, with a locally headquartered company tackling global nature‑risk challenges. It also highlights how Scottish Enterprise, Archangels and specialist venture funds are backing data‑driven platforms that sit at the intersection of AI, satellite analytics and sustainable finance, offering a clear story for readers interested in the business of the net‑zero and nature‑positive transition.
