Meta has introduced Muse, a personal AI agent designed to carry out tasks including sending emails, booking travel and making purchases. Announced on 8 September, the service is rolling out in the US on iOS, Android and the web.
Users can communicate with Muse through its app or WhatsApp. Meta says the agent can develop plans, browse websites and fill in forms, continuing to work after the app is closed.
The company says Muse asks for approval before sensitive actions such as sending an email or buying something. Payments use Stripe’s Link service, with one-time-use cards intended to keep users’ card details hidden.
Muse runs in a dedicated cloud-based virtual machine, with a separate Sentinel agent checking actions before they reach the internet. Users can review an audit trail, control connections to other services and opt out of their interactions being used to train Meta’s models, according to the company.
Meta says conversations and data held in the virtual machine are not shared with its advertising systems. A further version, encrypted with a key held only by the user, is planned for later this year; the launch announcement gives no UK rollout date.
