Google has opened pre-orders for Googlebook, a new category of premium laptops, with five flagship models built by Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo.
Prices start at $899. Pre-orders are open on the Google Store, Best Buy and other retailers, with devices reaching shelves on 4 October in the US and on 5 October in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia.
The line-up includes a convertible Acer model that switches between laptop and tablet, an ASUS machine weighing 2.2lb and a Lenovo with a 15-inch display. The laptops use materials including aluminium, magnesium alloy and carbon fibre, and have touchscreens with up to 2.8K resolution.
Google worked with Intel, Qualcomm and MediaTek on the devices. At launch, buyers can choose between Intel Core Ultra Series 3 and Snapdragon X Elite processors, paired with neural processing units rated at more than 45 TOPS of on-device AI performance. Every model has at least 16GB of RAM, and battery life reaches up to 14 hours of video playback and 16 hours of web browsing.
Each Googlebook includes 12 months of Google AI Pro, with 5TB of cloud storage and higher usage limits in Gemini, plus three months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop. Google says Googlebook OS will receive feature drops and updates for up to 10 years.
