Green Bioactives awarded £100,000 Scottish Enterprise SMART grant to propel biomanufacturing innovation in personal care

07/08/2024

THIS prestigious grant will fund a groundbreaking project aimed at producing a biomanufacturing platform for high-value molecules in the personal care industry. These molecules are essential components used in a wide range of personal care products, including skincare, haircare, and cosmetics. By utilising sustainable plant-based methods, GBL aims to revolutionise the personal care industry, providing manufacturers with sustainable and reliable alternatives to ingredients derived from traditional harvesting methods.

The grant builds on advice, investment and capital funding previously provided by Scottish Enterprise to GBL in support of the company’s scale-up ambitions.

GBL is at the forefront of innovative biomanufacturing and its mission is to make a positive impact on the world. To do this, the company utilises cutting-edge technology to harness the power of nature, offering sustainable solutions that align with the growing demand for green and ethical products through advanced and sustainable biotechnology. “We are honoured to receive the Scottish Enterprise SMART grant,” said Dr. David McElroy, CEO of Green Bioactives. “This funding will accelerate our efforts to develop innovative biomanufacturing platforms that can produce high-value molecules sustainably and efficiently. Our goal is to offer the personal care industry a viable alternative to traditional plant molecule extraction, ultimately reducing the environmental footprint of these products and promoting a more sustainable future.”

The project is a testament to Green Bioactives’ commitment to sustainability and innovation and is poised to make significant contributions to the personal care sector and beyond, driving the industry towards greener and more responsible practices.
