Apple has begun rolling out Siri AI, a redesigned version of its digital assistant that can draw on information in messages, emails and photos to help users complete tasks. The English-language beta began on 14 September for supported devices.

Apple says the assistant can draft emails, edit and share photos, and act on information displayed onscreen. One example involves finding a family recipe in an email and adding its ingredients to a shopping list in Reminders.

A dedicated Siri app allows users to revisit conversations, with history synced across their Apple devices through iCloud. The underlying Apple Foundation Models were developed in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models, according to Apple.

The company says processing takes place on devices and through its Private Cloud Compute system. Some server-based features, including Siri AI, have daily usage limits, with expanded access planned for a fee.

French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support is due in October. Siri AI requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device and is not initially available in the EU on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch; Apple also says the new features will not be available in China while it works through regulatory requirements.
