Nvidia is working with Australian cloud and data-centre providers on an AI infrastructure expansion that could reach up to two gigawatts by 2027. Announced on 9 September, the programme covers land, power and buildings designed to accommodate multiple generations of Nvidia computing systems.

Participating companies include Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, ResetData, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk. The providers will operate the facilities, while Nvidia supplies its DSX platform, computing hardware, networking and software.

Nvidia says the expansion is intended to give Australian businesses, universities, researchers and start-ups greater access to computing resources for developing and running AI models and applications. The programme also includes access to Nvidia’s Nemotron open models.

Among the projects described in the announcement, Sharon AI is deploying up to 68,000 Nvidia graphics processing units. Firmus is expanding its Project Southgate initiative, while IREN says it is applying Nvidia’s infrastructure design to its 800-megawatt Bundey campus in South Australia.

The two-gigawatt figure is a prospective buildout across the partner network, not capacity already operating. Nvidia’s announcement does not specify an overall investment value, and the individual projects are at different stages of development.
